excerpt from expanded DISTORTION -

"To distort is to think critically, to assert one’s intellect upon any given form, function or idea. When thinking in such a fashion norms are not simply validated or confirmed as concrete, knowing instead that no material is impervious to shaping and any change is possible given the correct (or incorrect) tools. If distortion is often thought of in the negative it is only because an insistence on binary thought leads one to such a conclusion. The compulsion to think in terms of definitive answers — lines which mislead us to simplistic finalities — is a cognitive process which must be broken."
